Yellow Tree Dresser by Of Houses and Trees | I have a thing for trees. And also tree dressers. Here's another tree dresser project I tackled. I think it looks pretty good if I say so myself!

Yes, I have a thing for trees. Obviously. And apparently I also have a thing for painting them on dressers, because this is my second tree dresser project. This is going to be more of a “teaser” post than a full-fledged one. (Meaning a few hundred words long and not a novella.) To come – a much bigger and more detailed post that will feature the entire room this tree dresser resides in.

I wanted to share the before and after, but somehow the before photos that I am absolutely certain I took have vanished without a trace.

I easily found the before photos of a cradle I also repainted with the dresser lurking in the background. But as for the photos of the dresser that I took on the exact same day? Nada. I’m sure they were misfiled or I did the thing I’m famous for, which is put them somewhere thinking “I shall put these photos here and subsequently know exactly where to locate them when they are needed” and then promptly forgot. Whatever. I will dwell on it no longer. Okay maybe just a little longer.

The before dresser hiding in the background of another before picture.

I also wanted to mention how incredibly long it takes to paint a tree on a dresser of this size by hand. Well, look at that, now I don’t need to talk about it because I just said everything. It takes. An incredibly. Long time. But once it’s done it looks so beautiful who cares amiright?

I’ll be talking about the dresser’s origins in my upcoming full-sized post, but I wanted to give a shout out to my grandpa, who I never actually got to meet as he passed away before I was born. He made this dresser and it used to belong to my mom when she was a little girl before it was mine and my sister’s when we were little. (And I also want to give a shout out to them owl knobs, because I love them. Every inanimate square millimetre of them.)

I also think my gallery wall turned out pretty good and you can read more about the vintage-inspired mounted key here and the love arrow sign here, you know – if you wanna. Oh, and one more shout out to my main man Devin who drew the gallery wall’s owl pictures with the exception of the largest owl, which is a page from the book Once Upon a Northern Night.

Are there any DIY projects you love so much that you just keep doing ’em? Have you done one before that you plan on repeating? Have you ever handpainted a tree dresser? Or handpainted an anything on anything? I love your comments! Not as much as I love my owl knobs, but pretty darn close.

Oh the labor that went into that little between all the different items. I never did keep a running total, but I think 40hrs is not out of the question. Just think what could have been accomplished with 40hrs at IKEA!

P.S.: For the little girl in that room and sentimental value. It was 40hrs well spent.

I completely agree about the 40 hours well spent. Besides, it’s not like we have anything else better to do with our time…

Haha – bloggee! Love it. Is that a real term? Just googled it and it looks like you coined it. Yay for you! The owl knobs are on the top drawers of the dresser. Hard to see in the picture perhaps? I planned on taking a closeup of them, but it didn’t happen. Maybe I’ll sneak in there another day and upload some more detail for future readers of this post. Love you too! And love your comments 🙂

I love how the dresser has turned out, after all, I too am a lover of trees. Since I was the little girl who used the dresser when it was in its original white state, I can say that the new look is awesome and has given it a new life. Grandpa would love it too…He was creative and would be very happy that it has stayed in the family. He would also be happy, that it’s being used by another little girl, who he would love and adore.

That dresser sure has seen a lot of action! That’s why I love old furniture so much. So much cooler when it has a story compared to “uh… I got it at Ikea.” Not knocking Ikea though – lord knows I’ve dropped some cash on flat-packed home decor items. Including the lamp residing on top of the dresser! (And if you have a really keen eye you may spot part of the Ikea-purchased ceiling light reflected in the gallery wall mirror.)

I’m sorry but I can’t find the paint chip and I don’t remember what it’s called. A yellow I also really love is Weston Flax from Benjamin Moore. It’s lighter and more creamy than this yellow, which is actually a bit brighter than I had originally wanted. I hope that helps!
